Rahner, Karl
(1904–84)
   Theologian.
   Rahner was a member of the Jesuit Order and he taught theology at the Universities of Innsbruck and Munich. He was strongly influenced by the philosophy of Martin heidegger and he attempted to interpret traditional Roman Catholic theology, particularly the work of thomas aquinas, in existential terms. Among his works was Geist im Welt (translated as Spirit in the World) and his Theological Investigations. He was one of the most influential theologians of his day; he acted as an advisor to the Second Vatican Council and he was one of the editors of the widely used Lexikon für Theologie und Kirch.
